Galenica expands its digital offering in the B2B segment
Press release, Tuesday, 12 July 2022
Galenica is acquiring 100% of the shares in Aquantic Ltd. The acquisition will give Galenica access to a digital ecosystem that, by linking pharmaceutical companies and health insurance providers, will significantly simplify the assumption of the costs of specific medicines. In doing so, Galenica is expanding its digital offering for business customers (B2B) and increasing both efficiency in healthcare and quality for its partners and for patients.
Aquantic specialises in software solutions related to Article 71 a-d of the Health Insurance Ordinance (HIO). This article allows medicinal products or indications of medicinal products to be reimbursed in exceptional cases even if they are not on the federal list of specialities. This regulation is relevant, for example, in cases of rare, very severe or chronic disease and high therapeutic usefulness. The SmartMIP software solution by Aquantic enables this remuneration to be processed quickly, in a standardized manner and in compliance with the law within the meaning of Article 71 a-d HIO.
With the addition of Aquantic's services, Galenica is taking a step forward in the digitalisation of healthcare also in the B2B sector and is connecting health insurers and pharmaceutical companies. In this way, Galenica helps to shape a growing ecosystem in which the players work together. SmartMIP is already in use at 23 health insurance providers and 19 pharmaceutical companies.
In future, Aquantic will be managed as an independent Business Unit within the Galenica Group and will support the specialty pharmacy Mediservice. Aquantic’s solution and extensive experience will enable Mediservice to expand its Article 71 expertise and optimise its services. Aquantic will benefit from its affiliation with the Galenica Group by gaining even wider market access and will help to consolidate Mediservice’s market-leading position.
Daniele Madonna, Head of Healthcare at Galenica, says: “We warmly welcome the Aquantic team to the Galenica Group. The cooperation once again shows how important digital solutions are for us, including in the B2B sector. We are very pleased to be able to strengthen our expertise in Article 71 and thus offer partner companies and ultimately our customers an even better service and even greater quality.”
Chris Wenger, Managing Director of Aquantic, adds: “Galenica is the perfect environment for us to further develop our innovative solutions and connect market players so that we can meet the digital challenges of the healthcare sector together with an effective platform.”
The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price of the shares.
