40 years of Spagyros: tradition meets modernity

Tradition or innovation? For the last 40 years, the answer at Spagyros has been: both. Ancient healing knowledge and cutting-edge research go hand in hand here. CEO Michael Severus explains how this balance is struck.

Nowadays, when you have a tickle in your throat or you can feel the burn in your muscles after exercising, reaching for your smartphone is almost like a reflex. This points towards a clear trend for greater health awareness: people want to understand what is happening in their bodies. Even more, they want to know what they are taking, where it comes from and how it affects their well-being. In times like these, it is no surprise that the ancient method of spagyrics is more current than ever.

Spagyric medicine is a manufacturing process with roots stretching back to the Egyptians. The aim: to harness the power of plants and all the active substances they contain through distillation, fermentation or incineration. To this day, Spagyros relies on this centuries-old experiential knowledge.

When Spagyros embarked on its journey in 1985, much of the production process was still done by hand. Forty years later, nothing has changed: even today, everything in spagyrics and gemmotherapy is done by hand in La Malmaison, and similarly for homeopathy in Worb. The requirements in terms of quality, documentation and traceability have increased enormously over the years – and Spagyros now meets these to the highest standard. “But the one constant over the last 40 years has been the close connection with nature,” says Michael Severus, CEO of Spagyros.

Together in the Galenica network

Spagyros has been part of Verfora and thus part of the Galenica network since 2021. This partnership strengthens integrated healthcare: Spagyros supplements Galenica’s pharmaceutical and conventional medicine offering with its complementary approach – and in return benefits from the network’s knowledge, infrastructure and innovation. The key to making the shared vision a reality is focussing on health and well-being.
